Our Resident Bonsai Artist, Holly Mixon

Holly Mixon’s passion for Bonsai is both deep-rooted and expansive, much like the miniature trees she so artfully shapes. With years of dedicated experience as a Bonsai artist, Holly has meticulously crafted thousands of bonsai specimens, each a testament to her skill, dedication, and love for the art.

Her creations not only adorn commercial spaces but are also cherished in numerous private collections, speaking volumes of the trust and respect she has garnered in the Bonsai community. Holly’s finesse is in part a reflection of her rigorous training under the esteemed Bonsai Master Jun Imabayashi, whose teachings have greatly influenced her approach and techniques.

One of the highlights of Holly’s career was when she was bestowed the honor of creating bonsai for the entire U.S. Winter Olympic team in 2022—a recognition that underscores her prominence in the field.

Beyond her hands-on Bonsai experience, Holly also holds a degree in Public Horticulture from the University of Tennessee. This academic background enriches her understanding of plant care, ensuring that each Bonsai she crafts is not only aesthetically pleasing but also thriving and healthy.

At Itty Bitty Trees, Holly’s expertise and warm approachability make her an invaluable asset. She’s not just our resident Bonsai artist; she’s the heart and soul of our plant community, always eager to share her knowledge and spread the joy of Bonsai.

Bonsai Class Frequently Asked Questions

How much do classes cost?

That depends on the type of class you are attending.

When do you offer classes?

We typically offer at least one bonsai class per month. Check out our event page for current offerings. Contact us if you would like to inquire about a private class for yourself or a group.

What is the minimum age for someone to attend a Bonsai Class?

We rely on parents and guardians to determine whether or not they believe their child can be responsible enough to attend one of our bonsai courses. Be aware that we will be using very sharp scissors and other tools.

If you aren’t sure if your little one can handle the group setting, I suggest scheduling a private lesson. Contact us to learn more about our private Bonsai lessons.

Anyone considered to be disrupting a class may be asked to leave to ensure the enjoyment of the rest of our artists. This has never happened before and we hope to keep that trend going. Refunds would not be provided if someone were asked to leave due to their behavior.
